THE PROCESS

Turning your trash
into our treasure

Made from forgotten printer cartridge ink, Lousy seemed like a fitting name for our not-so-lousy product. Before it's bottled up, our ink starts in a humble factory just outside of Melbourne at Close The Loop.

QUICK RUNDOWN

1. Recycle and repurpose

Cartridges 4 Planet Ark have set up collection boxes all over Australia in order to recycle inkjet printer cartridges.

2. Collect and deliver

A quick and good-looking driver then collects your cartridges, transporting them to Close The Loop for processing.

3. Filtering the ink

The cartridges are then crushed down and filtered in order to recycle the plastics and all the remaining ink.

THE LONG VERSION

Old inkjet printer cartridges are collected by Close The Loop to be recycled for their plastic. After they've been crushed down, all the run-off ink is safely stored in giant tanks. Lousy Ink is the by-product of this dedication to recycling, reusing and reinventing, and all falls under the umbrella of CTL's strict zero waste policy.

By repurposing old materials in the form of a friendly and affordable product, we encourage accessible creativity. Sustainability is at the core of Lousy's mission and making sure we look after our own waste management, all the way down to how we make art. You can rest easy knowing a bottle of Lousy is helping keep our planet clean

THE REALITY

Over the years, we've collected more than 85,000L worth of ink

If it weren't for Close The Loop, nearly five buses worth of ink would've ended up somewhere in landfill. Thankfully they've kept every single drop in order to be reused – by Lousy!

“It’s a fantastic way to reuse something that would otherwise end up in landfill.”
